D.I.Y Snowman Mason Jars

I haven’t been in touch with my crafty side lately…and part of that is to blame with my extremely busy schedule. I have skeins of yarn, stacks of canvas, and lots of  supplies waiting to be used and no time to use it. And in light of yesterday’s serious post ( see: Let’s Get Real About Seasonal Depression ) I wanted to tone it down and follow it up with a fun and crafty D.I.Y theme – that’s when I got today’s post idea! These Snowman Mason Jars take minimal time and skill and are so cute to give as gifts, use as decoration, or sell for some extra Christmas money.

First you’ll need to gather your materials. I got most of mine from either Michael’s (a craft store) or Amazon – but I’ll be leaving a link to the exact products I used just in case!

What You’ll Need

  • Some Mason Jars! I used two different sizes, so it’s entirely up to you how big or small you want them to be.
  • White Paint. I used Martha Stewart Crafts’ Vintage White Décor Paint.
  • Buttons! I used black to stay with the “classic snowman” look, but you can choose any color you want.
  • Ribbon.  I went with the vintage and rustic look on these snowman, so I used a lot of plaid and twine. But again, it’s completely up to you. I used Celebrate It Natural and Red Ribbon Pack.
  • A Hot Glue Gun. Just to put the buttons in place. You can use craft glue as well, but the dry time will be longer.
  • Some Paint Brushes

Directions:

  1. Gather your materials and lay down some newspaper on a flat surface. Make sure mason jars are clean and dry.
  2. Start by painting the mason jars with a brush size of your choice. You will only need one coat of paint (if you use the same kind I used) for a rustic look.

3. Once dry, you’ll be able to start decorating your jars to look like adorable snowmen! I recommend adding the ribbon first and creating the “scarf.” I made multiple styles to give more than one example. This is also a good time to have your hot glue gun plugged in.

4. Once you figure out how you want your ribbon placed, glue in place!

5. Next, add the buttons! You can use your desired size and as many as you want! I used three buttons on the big jars and two on the little ones.

6. Step back and admire your craft skills!

This craft is so easy and only takes about half an hour – including paint drying time! I actually had a LOT of fun making these, despite my Grinchy vibe, and I really hope that you guys like them, too.
